TESTIS - Haemorrhagic infarction

Description
The specimen is a testis with attached portion of cord and adjacent tunicavaginalis. The appendix testis is seen at the lower pole of the specimen. The testis and appendix testis shows diffuse haemorrhagic infarction. There is a small secondary hydrocoele and the parietal surface of the tunicavaginalis is lined by organized blood clot.
History
This 44 year old male presented with a short history of painful testicular swelling. At operation is was found that the testis had undergone torsion with haemorrhagic infarction.
